The story seems fine at first glance, but when you see the film made on it, you find it to be a very incomplete film, because the drama in it is very dry. Watch Footferi on Netflix only when you feel like watching a movie that confuses you. Director Kanishk Verma’s name recently surfaced as the director of Disney+ Hotstar’s latest web series “Shoorveer”. Prior to this, Kanishk has directed another film named Sanak which featured Vidyut Jammwal. This film “Footferi”, is the first film of Kanishk. In 2020, it was released directly on television instead of theaters, and then in 2022 its Marathi dub was also released, and is now available on Netflix in both languages.

The story of the film is of a serial killer. Seeing a girl walking alone on the railway track in the dark of night, this serial killer closes her mouth in a strong plastic bag. The girl’s breath chokes and she dies. The killer takes the girl’s body to a secluded spot, cuts off her legs with a sharp-edged saw, and stuffs her body in a red suitcase and dumps it on the side of the tracks. Inspector Vivaan Deshmukh (Gulshan Devaiah) starts investigating this case. Many types of sources are found and every time a person is arrested, he does not turn out to be a murderer and in the meantime one more murder takes place. Vivaan is disappointed but continues to try.

With great difficulty, a proof is found that all the girls whose dead bodies were found were returning from the same restaurant before their death. Upon investigation, the owner of the restaurant, Joshua (Kunal Roy Kapur), becomes suspicious. Suddenly an eyewitness is found who recognizes Joshua’s picture and declares it as a “Footferi”. Joshua is arrested, but is released because no strong evidence is found. During this, a little girl living in Vivaan’s neighborhood gets killed and Vivaan gets angry and fuses Joshua’s ribs together. Even then no evidence is found against Joshua. Joshua files a case against the police and Vivaan has to quit his job and moves from Mumbai to another city. After many years Vivaan again comes to Mumbai and just like that he again walks on the railway track where he meets a child who says that a while ago someone else had stopped that child and asked that child Did you get anything? Vivaan thinks that it must have been a “foot-fair” or not. Vivaan follows her. The film ends.

There are many good things in the film and some unanswered questions too. Among the good things is Gulshan Devaiah’s acting. Although her voice definitely doesn’t match her character and she should have done a little more preparation to become a police officer, Gulshan’s face and her big eyes would make any criminal confess to a crime just by staring at her. Is. Apart from Gulshan, the character of Sagarika Ghatge as his girlfriend has also been created well.

Two professional people can be made friends by introducing them only by their friends. This fine detail of Mumbai has been shown well in the film. Sagarika and Gulshan’s friendship is also growing in a very good way, without unnecessary romance. The conversation between the two is also very smooth, light and cute. Kunal Roy Kapur’s character is the best. Ever since his entry, every evidence indicates that he is behind the murder but it can never be proved. The audience also feels that he will be the murderer but it does not happen. Viewers do not feel cheated but are definitely disappointed like Gulshan.

In the unanswered questions, Vivaan and his companions always keep thinking about “footfair” as if no other case will come to them yet. Is the job of the police like this too? Whenever any CCTV footage of “Footferry” is found, it never seems to be of Kunal Roy Kapur’s height, but of Vivaan’s height. If seen from a new perspective, Vivaan i.e. Gulshan can be a murderer. He has enough time to kill everyone. When he quits his job and moves from Mumbai to another city, there is no murder for that long. However, his conversation with the child in the climax proves contrary to this theory.

Kunal Roy Kapur tells the police that he is fond of seeing the beautiful feet of girls but he is not a murderer. Gulshan never used to think that the planning could be of Kunal but the murder might have been done by one of his accomplices. Kunal cannot be the killer because the serial killer has some frustration in his mind about which he does not tell anyone while Kunal accepts his attraction for the feet of the girls.

Those who have been reading books or watching movies with the story of murder mystery or serial killer, they do not have to tell who the killer could be. Gulshan and Kunal are out of the circle of suspicion but one of Gulshan’s accomplices could be behind these murders. If you want to know who is that friend, then watch “Footferi”. Bong Joon-ho, director of the famous 2019 Oscar Award winning film “Parasite”, directed a film inspired by true events in 2003 – Memories of Murder. Inspired by this film, director Kanishk Verma has made “Footferry” and has left the mystery of the murderer unanswered for the audience. “Footferi” is worth watching but we are used to catching murderers. Nothing like this happens here.
