Covid made it more severe for people living close to smokers. Blood pressure increases due to passive smoking (people coming in contact with cigarette smoke) and then such patients had to be admitted to the ICU. Dr. Yuvenkatesh of the Department of Community Medicine, AIIMS, disclosed this in his research paper during the workshop.

A workshop was also organized at AIIMS on Monday regarding this research and its results, in which experts from different AIIMS of the country were present. In his research paper, Dr. Yuvenkatesh told that this research was done on 1353 patients, out of which 672 patients were passive smokers. He was admitted to ICU in critical condition due to Covid infection. Compared to these, 681 such people were also included in the research, who did not become serious.

The workshop was inaugurated by Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan, Executive Director Dr. Surekha Kishore, Director of Kasturba Health Society, Mahatma Gandhi Institute Sevagram, Prof. BS Garg and Prof. Ashok Prasad. During this eight research papers were read. In the second phase, the experts also discussed diabetes and hypertension.

Experts from Gorakhpur, Jodhpur, Bhatinda, Rishikesh and Patna AIIMS participated in it. Apart from this, experts from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram, Gujarat also participated in this research.
