In this article, we will tell you about the festival of Holi celebrated in such unique ways in India.
Jutamar Holi
This Holi happens only in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The most unique Holi is played here on the day of Holi. Actually, on this day the people of the city take out a procession in which a person is made to sit on a buffalo by making him a lot and then he is taken around the city by hitting him with shoes and a broom (symbolically). It is said that this Holi was started to vent out the anger of the people towards the British. Actually, when India was ruled by the British, they used to oppress the people of the country a lot, the people were helpless and they could not harm them. That’s why people chose the day of Holi to express this anger and on this day they used to make a person Latsaheb (dressed like the British) make him sit on a buffalo and beat him with shoes and broom. The country became free from the British, but the people of Shahjahanpur are following this tradition even today.
Chhatri Holi
This Holi was originally celebrated in Patori subdivision of Samastipur district of Bihar. It is celebrated traditionally for decades in Dhamon, a village with five panchayats in the area. On the day of Holi, the Hurihars (those who roam around and play Holi in the whole area) come to this area, they also bring an umbrella made of bamboo with them. Because of this it is also called Holi with umbrella. It is said that there are many gangs of Hurihars in this area and the nearest one has more than one umbrella. People from far and wide reach this area to see this Holi.
Holi with ashes
This special Holi is celebrated in Banaras i.e. Varanasi. It is said that this Holi was started by Lord Shiva himself. It is believed that on the next day of Rangbhari Ekadashi, Baba Vishwanath played Holi with his ganas at the crematorium Manikarnika Ghat. This is the reason that every year on this day saints from all over the country gather at this ghat and play Holi by smearing each other with ashes. People from all over the world gather in Varanasi to watch and participate in this Holi and enjoy it.
Lathmar Holi
This Holi is played only in Barsana in the whole world . Holi is played with colors in Barsana, but on this day women have sticks in their hands and they shower a lot of sticks on the men who came to play Holi. However, to avoid this, men also have a shield, so that no one gets hurt in this festival. It is said that this Holi symbolizes the love of Radha Krishna, so such Holi has been happening here every year for centuries.
