REVIEW ‘Rangbaaz Season 3’: ‘Rangbaaz: Darr Ki Raajneeti’ was recently released on Zee5 which is the third season of this web series. In just 6 episodes, the story of such a Bahubali of Bihar has been shown, who first showed his influence in the politics of the state and then of the country, but was cheated in the end. To say this story is based on the characters of Bihar’s leaders Mohammad Shahabuddin, Lalu Yadav and Nitish Kumar, but the web series has been written in such an interesting way that fictional events have also been seen to entertain the audience.

This is the third season of ‘Rangbaaz’ series. In the first season, the story of the dreaded gangster Mr. Prakash Shukla of Uttar Pradesh was shown. A normal boy who goes to avenge his sister’s molestation, accidentally shoots a man dead from his gun. Because of that mistake, how an ordinary boy became the target of the Special Task Force of the police, why his steps went against the law, how the politicians took advantage of his intelligence and muscle power and when Mr. Prakash started going out of the way of the politicians He was put to death.

The second season of Rangbaaz was inspired by the character of Rajasthan’s most wanted Anandpal Singh. In this, Jimmy Shergill played his best acting role. The very talented Vineet Kumar is in the lead role in the third season. Vineet has played the innocence of his face, his art of keeping his emotions under control and his skill of not revealing the nature of his mind through his face. This series is worth watching. Compared to other crime web series, it has more credibility and very less abuses.

The formula of most of the films and web series made on crime is almost like a set. An ordinary man has to pick up a gun under circumstances and he kills his oppressor. Before this the feeling of atonement surrounds him, step by step he gets trapped in the quagmire of crime and politics goes on playing with his life under the guise of protecting him. When his usefulness ends or his presence becomes a threat to the life and career of the leaders, then he is killed by the police or special task force. This season of Rangbaaz is the story of Shah Ali Baig in Dhiwan village of Bihar. Shah Ali Baig, a believer in love, a college student, who considers his friend the most, enters into the real estate business and gradually becomes powerful. His rapid strides bring him to Bihar’s infamous and well-known mass leader Lakhan Rai (acting powerhouse Vijay Maurya). On the instigation of Lakhan Rai, Shah Ali Baig does every work with the help of a gun, which is useful to save Lakhan Rai’s political reputation and chair.

By the way, Shah Ali Baig is very fond of justice, but the intoxication of power and power, which does not get done, is less. When his childhood best friend stands from Dhiwan after studying from Delhi as a candidate of the Communist Party, Lakhan Rai gets him killed so that Shah Ali’s dominance remains intact. Shah Ali feels sorry that politics takes the life of his friend, but he cannot make atonement. Lakhan Rai continues to become the Chief Minister of Bihar and Shah Ali continues to save his politics and chair by all right and wrong means. In these wrong deeds, many times innocent people are also killed through him. In the end, Lakhan Rai sacrifices Shah Ali’s political career to save his chair. Saddened by this deception, Shah Ali still helps Lakhan Rai to dismiss all the cases against him. The day Shah Ali is about to be released from prison, another innocent criminal father kills him in prison to avenge the murder of his sons.

The strength of this series comes from its writing. Writer Siddharth Mishra has done wonders for the third consecutive season. The screenplay and dialogues of this season are better than the first two seasons. Due to the tight script, work has been done in fewer episodes. In Dhiwan, the story of Shah Ali becoming a Bahubali from a college student has not been given much attention, due to which the mistake of glorifying crime has not been made. The mistakes that weakened the screenplay of the first and second seasons of Rangbaaz are completely missing from this season. Instead of becoming Bahubali, this time the emphasis has been on Shah Ali’s personal life and the good events of that life. The visual setup is also in such a way that no attempt has been made to gloss over the violence, rather the gruesome incidents have been filmed in a very modest way so that no one has any reason to follow it. There is a lot of glorification of crime in the web series Mirzapur but this season of Rangbaaz is completely logical. In the very first scene, Shah Ali uses his power to force the parents of the boy and the girl to agree to the inter-caste marriage. Even when they fall in love in college, Manohar discusses Shyam Joshi’s novels in front of Sana (Akanksha Singh). Such a form of display of love has been seen after a long time.

Vineet Kumar cannot be praised enough. It seems that he is Shah Ali. His style is totally different. He has not got a chance to act like this before. Dozens of police constables attack his house, then he along with his companions pick up a machine gun and attack the police in reverse, but seeing his wife and younger son scared, he surrenders in a way. Vineet has made me cry in that scene. His wife Sana is played by Akanksha Singh who was recently seen in Ajay Devgan’s film Runway 34 and Disney Hotstar’s web series Escape Live. The love story of Vineet and Akanksha is not as simple as it appears to the audience. Sana learns that her husband Shah Lee has become a Bahubali, on this basis he has become an MLA and then Member of parliament But she understands her husband and repeatedly asks him to leave all this for the future of her child but does not quarrel for it. Even when Shah Ali is locked in jail and cannot contest the election, she contests the election as his proxy candidate, wins and threatens Lakhan Rai with all the independent MLAs. Such characters are not commonly seen. Sana has not been made clever but practical and when she goes in front of Lakhan Rai, she does not look like a coward or a crook or a trickster.

It is a proper noun to call Vijay Maurya a powerhouse of talent. Although Vijay has come to films from the world of theatre, but he does selective roles. Vijay directs ad films for his livelihood. So far more than 150 ad films have been made. He was in the role of Dawood Ibrahim in Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday in 2004, and this role with barely 10 dialogues and 2-3 scenes was overshadowed by the bigger roles of other actors. Lakhan Rai’s character is like Lalu Prasad Yadav but he has not become clumsy even while joking. In just one scene, when he returns from jail and sings “Jogira Sara Rara” with his disciples at his bungalow or talks to the press, he behaves like a rustic and lost leader. In films, characters influenced by Lalu Prasad Yadav are written like caricatures. Vijay Maurya’s Lakhan Rai is not a comedian in Rangbaaz and Vijay has not allowed the Kalandar mood to dominate the character. Prashant Narayan is in the role of a police officer in the web series. His character is also based on a real Siwan’s SP Ratna Sanjay. Troubled by Shah Ali’s habit of breaking the law, when the SP wants to file a case against him, he is unable to do anything because of political pressure. In frustration, he storms Shah Ali’s house with the entire army. Terrible shootout takes place, but Shah Ali is arrested for saving his wife and child and the weapon recovered from his house is very small, which the police could not even cut. Prashant’s voice is strong, his personality is also good, but this time he has appeared a bit fat and unformed. The roles of Rajesh Tailang and Gitanjali Kulkarni are small and effective because they are such skilled players that in a single scene they overshadow the rest of the cast.

A lot of research has been done in Rangbaaz season 3 and its reflection is clearly visible in the writing. Whatever the crime, it is very non-glamorous. The politics that is there is also not devious or cunning politics. When Lakhan Rai joins hands with his arch-rival and sacrifices Shah Ali’s politics, the compulsion on his face is visible as well as the practical decision. Director Sachin Pathak and writer Siddharth Mishra seem to be getting more mature with each season. One thing which is more good in this season is that the title track of Rangbaaz has been removed. He was very hoarse and used to prick the ears. Nikhil Parihar is associated with Parikshit Jha in editing this time. Scissors have been used mercilessly so that the pace of the story remains and the possibilities of deviating from the original story end.

Although many incidents of Shah Ali in this web series are similar to the incidents of Shahabuddin’s life, but the touch of Shah Ali’s personal life has been kept amazing. Girls’ school, city hospital, his scheme to reduce the doctor’s fee to Rs 25 and many such socially useful works have also come in his share, which very smoothly go into the web series and leave a slight impact. Shah Ali has also been shown to be fond of poetry, which does not seem to have been forced because of Vineet’s acting talent. This season has become the best in the season so far. Must see it.
