The Supreme Court has given a major decision in favor of the Yogi government while hearing on the issue of giving reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in the civic elections. The Supreme Court has accepted the report of the OBC Commission prepared by the Yogi Government regarding the civic elections. Along with this, the court has given permission to issue notification of civic body elections within two days. This order of the Supreme Court has dealt a severe blow to the plans of the opposition to obstruct the reservation for OBCs in the civic elections.
At the same time, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court. He said that the Supreme Court’s order to hold urban body elections with OBC reservation by accepting the report of the OBC commission is welcome. CM Yogi said that the government was committed to OBC reservation and took all the action within the time limit given by the Supreme Court. He said that following the rules of reservation in a lawful manner, the Uttar Pradesh government is committed to conduct urban body elections in a time-bound manner.

Let us tell you that the people of the opposition had filed a petition in the High Court from the backdoor regarding the OBC reservation in the civic elections and tried to influence the government’s decision. While hearing the matter, the High Court had given a decision to hold the civic body elections immediately without OBC reservation, on which Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had made it clear that the state government is dedicated to all sections of the society, including Dalits and Backward Classes. Without discrimination, everyone is working with the spirit of development. We will not conduct elections without OBC reservation.
After this, the government constituted the OBC commission and appealed against the High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court. On which, while hearing on March 27, the Supreme Court had directed the commission constituted to ensure OBC reservation to file its report within March 31, prohibiting the order of the High Court to hold immediate elections. After the order of the Supreme Court, the Commission started its work.
The commission visited 75 districts to prepare its report and after the survey submitted its report to the government on March 9. On the other hand, the report and recommendations of the commission were filed by the government in the Supreme Court on 15 March. Hearing on which today, the Supreme Court has given a decision in favor of the Yogi government and has accepted the report of the commission. Along with this, permission has been given to conduct body elections with OBC reservation.
