Google Photos: Storage plays an important role in running Google’s Android system smoothly. Google Photos works as a cloud-first photo library. Many people prefer to save photos in Google Photos instead of saving them in their phone. However, on doing this some people say that the photos are not saved in original quality, but it is not so. Fortunately, Google helps you to back up photos in original quality. Now larger photos can quickly fill up your cloud storage.
How to use ‘free up space’?
Once you have successfully backed up photos, you can also delete the original local files from your device. In fact, over time your storage can become tens of GB of photos and videos, which are essentially stored in two places. One place on the cloud and the other on the phone. Using a tool called “Free up space” in Google Photos, you can have the app automatically remove any local files that are securely backed up in Google Photos. To do this follow the steps mentioned below.
- In the Google Photos app, go to the Library tab.
- Tap Utilities at the top.
- Now tap on Free up space.
- Now click on Free Up to delete the local photo copy.
Note : Once you start this process, Google Photos takes care of it. Remember, this will only delete photos that have a copy in the cloud. Any photo that is only local will be secure where it is. The delete process can take as little as three seconds or as little as ten minutes. However, it depends on how much storage is being deleted.
