Rabi Crop Farming: Agriculture is a seasonal business. If the weather is favourable, then the crop will yield good yield, but sometimes bad weather also causes loss to the farmers and the production of the crop falls. This is the reason why RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has described India’s agriculture sector as resilient. Presenting the Reserve Bank’s review report, the RBI governor said that although there is a possibility of a decrease in the production of Kharif crops in India due to irregular rains, but now the sowing of Rabi crops has shown strength in the agriculture sector.
Sowing of rabi crops strengthened
Uncertainties of the weather dominated agriculture this year. This is the reason why the production of Kharif crops is expected to decrease. Meanwhile, in the first advance estimate, the production of Kharif crops is estimated to be 149.92 MT, which was recorded at 156.04 MT last year. From the supply point of view, the RBI governor believes that India’s agriculture sector is very resilient.
This year, the sowing of rabi crops has got off to a great start. Till December 2, 6.8 percent more sowing of rabi crops has been registered as compared to normal sowing. On the basis of the Indian economy, Shaktikanta Das explains that the agricultural sector has also received a lot of support from factors like growth in Rabi sowing, balanced urban demand, improvement in rural demand, boom in construction, revival of service sector and increasing demand for loans.

What do the latest figures of the ministry say?
Statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture also show that in the first two months of the current rabi season, the area under sowing of wheat has also increased by 5.36 percent to reach 211.62 lakh tonnes. In Rajasthan, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, rabi crops are reported to cover more area than sown.
In this winter crop season, sowing of wheat starts from October itself, which ripens and is ready for harvesting by March-April, although in many areas, apart from wheat, farmers also grow pulses like rice, gram and urad. He also sows oilseed crops like mustard and groundnut.
