Salim Durani Passed Away: Former Indian cricketer Salim Durrani has passed away. He breathed his last at the age of 88. Salim Durrani used to play as an all-rounder in the Indian team. Apart from aggressive batting, he also used to do off-spin bowling. He was the most handsome cricketer of India in his time. He was called the romantic hero of the Indian cricket team. Salim Durrani was born on 11 December 1934 in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. His full name was Salim Aziz Durrani. After birth he came to India. His father Abdul Aziz played two unofficial Test matches for undivided India against Australia. After partition, his father Abdul Aziz moved to Karachi as a cricket coach while Salim Durrani stayed with his mother in Jamnagar. Later Salim shifted to Rajasthan.

When won against England

In the year 1961-62, Salim Durrani played an important role in helping India win the Test series against England. During that time, he won India by taking 8 and 10 wickets respectively in the Kolkata and Madras (now Chennai) Tests. Nearly 10 years later, he again repeated this performance to win India the Port of Spain Test against the West Indies. In that match, Salim Durrani dismissed Clive Lloyd and Gary Sobers. He was very popular among the fans. Similarly, in the year 1973, when he was dropped from the team in the Kanpur Test, the audience chanted, No Durrani, No Test.

Salim Durrani made his Test debut in January 1960 against Australia. He played for India for almost 13 years. During this, he represented the Indian team in 29 Test matches. He has 1202 runs in the test. In the biggest format of cricket, he has one century and 7 half-centuries to his name. His highest score in Test was 104 runs. Apart from this, he scored 8545 runs in first class cricket. Salim Durrani scored 14 centuries and 45 half-centuries in first-class cricket. His highest score in first class cricket was 137 not out.
