AMU Vice Chancellor’s place in the Legislative Council is also part of the strategy to woo Muslims
The nomination of former AMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Tariq Mansoor to the Legislative Council was also considered as part of the exercise to connect Muslims, especially Pasmanda voters, with the BJP. In fact, when Professor Tariq Mansoor was awarded the post of Vice-Chancellor during the tenure of the NDA government at the Center, it was discussed that Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh had a blessing on him. However, Professor Mansoor never confirmed this, nor did the Sangh leadership ever make any such claim. But Professor Tariq Mansoor’s affection towards the BJP, Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi continued to be discussed in the AMU campus throughout his tenure. Finally, the selection in the Legislative Council put a seal of confirmation on this discussion.

Now the emphasis on ‘triple engine’ government
In Braj region, the Chief Minister has raised the election bugle by holding public meetings. In these meetings, the Chief Minister is stressing on the triple engine government. There is a BJP government in the country and state. In the last term, there was also a third engine in the form of mayor of BJP in many corporations. But the situation in Aligarh is slightly different in this matter. The triple engine went missing for five whole years in this problem-ridden metropolis. Whether it is littered with filth in every ward of the city, flowing gutters or the extinguished flickering street lights which help in establishing the rule of darkness. Now is the time to ask for the account of the voters. The BJP has the advantage of blaming the BSP-led city government for this and getting away with it. BSP has probably realized this. He has tried to blunt the blame for the city’s problems by denying the ticket to the mayor who won last time.
