Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan, Pakistan Cricket Board, PCB: Things seem to be getting fixed regarding the ODI World Cup to be held in India, but whether the Asia Cup will be held in Pakistan or not has not been decided yet. former Prime Minister Imran Khan His arrest has added to the difficulties. Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had proposed a hybrid model under the understanding of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).
According to a Cricbuzz report, the PCB wanted to host the Asia Cup in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after India refused to travel to Pakistan. But the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) did not agree to play the matches in the UAE due to the September heat. There were also reports of the tournament being held in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan board had expressed its desire to have the Asia Cup in their country. On the other hand, if the PCB’s proposals are not accepted, it seems reluctant to participate in the championship. The report claimed that if the tournament is shifted then Pakistan will be out.
Sri Lanka Cricket and Bangladesh Cricket Board have given the reason for not playing in UAE. The board has said that there will be a lot of heat in the UAE in the month of September. At the same time, PCB has argued that some tournaments were organized in September. PCB chief Najam Sethi, who visited Dubai in the past few days, said in his meeting with BCB and SLC officials that the 50-over Asia Cup was held in 2018 from September 15 to 28, for which the BCCI was the designated host.
He also informed that in 2022 when Sri Lanka cricket was the host, the Asia Cup in T20 format was held from 27 August to 11 September. It is believed that the PCB is pushing for the hybrid model of Pakistan-UAE, failing which it will be out. It is a fact that several Indian players complained of heat during the 2018 50-over Asia Cup, which was to start in the afternoon. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary and ACC chief Jay Shah has not said anything. No decision has been taken yet, but looking at the circumstances, the tournament seems to be in danger.
