Maharashtra-Karnataka Border: ‘Prime Minister Should Clarify His Stand On Border Dispute’, Uddhav Thackeray’s Appeal

Border Dispute: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should clarify his stand on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute. He also defended the collegium system of appointing judges. Along with this, he accused the central government of “putting pressure on the judiciary” and trying to bring it under its control.

Uddhav Thackeray said on Saturday at the inauguration of the 42nd Marathwada Literature Conference at Sant Ramdas College in Jalna district that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi They are coming to inaugurate the Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway and we welcome them. During his visit, he should clarify his stand on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute.

Thackeray spoke on the collegium system

Thackeray criticized Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar for making statements against the collegium system. Let us tell that Rijiju had said last month that the collegium system is a ‘absolutely unfamiliar’ term for the Constitution. Dhankhar, in his maiden speech in Rajya Sabha, criticized the judiciary for repealing the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) law, terming it as an example of ‘serious compromise with parliamentary sovereignty’.

Criticizing the statements made against the collegium system, Thackeray asked if the judges themselves could not appoint judges, could the Prime Minister choose them. He claimed that even after eight years, the Supreme Court is hearing petitions challenging the central government’s controversial decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

Delegation has met Home Minister Amit Shah

During his address, Thackeray said that the PM should speak about the Chief Minister of Karnataka who is claiming some villages in Maharashtra. Earlier, a delegation of parties involved in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena) led by NCP MP Supriya Sule met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During this, the delegation said that in view of the incidents in Belagavi, the border district of Karnataka and Maharashtra, the Center should intervene immediately.

What is this whole controversy?

Actually Maharashtra wants that Belagavi should be included in its state and not in Karnataka. Apart from this, Maharashtra also claims its rights over 814 other villages. But Karnataka does not accept this and that is why this border dispute has arisen. Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said a few days ago that some villages of Maharashtra will be included in Karnataka. After which the ruckus went on increasing.
