Thirst is a big thing. When it starts, there is no rest without water. Especially in summer and during travel. You will be surprised to know that every day two and a half crore liters of water are swallowed by the passengers at the stations of Delhi.

The daily consumption of water at New Delhi Railway Station alone is 1.04 crore litres. On the second number is Old Delhi Railway Station, where 60 lakh liters of drinking water is consumed per day, then 45 lakh liters of drinking water is consumed at Nizamuddin Railway Station. With the onset of summer every year, there is an increase in the number of passengers. This has a direct impact on water consumption.

Its consumption increases manifold. Its direct proof is the statistics of drinking water. With the onset of summer, a 13.9 per cent increase in daily water consumption has been recorded at five major stations in Delhi region.

According to railway officials, there is a consumption of 6 lakh liters of water per day at Delhi-Sarai Rohilla station. Whereas on other days 5 lakh 50 thousand litres. Similarly, the consumption of drinking water at Anand Vihar Terminal is 35 lakh liters per day. Apart from summer, 29 lakh liters of water is consumed by passengers on other days. Shobhan Chaudhuri, General Manager, Northern Railway informed that Rail Neer has been supplied 54% more in this year 2022-23 as compared to 2021-22 to improve the availability of bottled drinking water for passengers.

1090 lakh bottles of Rail Neer were supplied in 2022-23 and 590 lakh bottles of Rail Neer during 2021-22. A record sale of 79.43 lakh bottles has been registered at New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar which is 13% higher as compared to 70.47 lakh bottles in the same period last year. Officers have been deployed 24 hours at major stations so that there is no shortage of bottled drinking water and other food items.

Northern Railway has four Neer plants

Northern Railway has four Rail Neer plants. Rail Neer is being supplied from Nangloi in Delhi, Una in Himachal Pradesh and Hapur and Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. The total production capacity of these four Rail Neer plants is 4.12 lakh bottles per day.
