The Covin portal, which secures the data of people who have taken the Covid vaccine, was hacked by a student from Patna, Bihar who studied only up to class IX. He along with his brother reached the Covin portal and created a bot (search option) to search the data on the portal.
After this put the bot on the channel created on your Telegram. Through this channel, people could go to the Covin portal. However, it had given permission to access this channel only to the people of a group created by it. Subscribers to the channel could access the portal. The IFSO of Special Cell of Delhi Police has taken the elder brother on remand for three days. A senior Delhi Police officer said that the complaint of alleged data leak from the Covin portal was given to the Delhi Police on Saturday last.
Delhi Police’s Special Cell started investigation by registering a case in IFSO. A swift investigation resulted in the arrest of both the accused brothers from Patna, Bihar a day later on Sunday. Elder brother has done B.Tech. Younger brother’s age is 17 years. He is only 9th class pass on paper. The accused said that on June 8 and 9, they had put a bot on their Telegram channel. Acting immediately, the police caught both of them. It is being said that the security features of the portal were not of quality.
Data leak did not happen – Delhi Police: A Delhi Police official said that till now it has been revealed in the investigation that the data has not been leaked from the Covin portal. When the accused had created the system, everything was visible on the portal. However, later they made such a system or showed understanding that complete information was not visible on entering the mobile number on the portal. From June 8 and 9 till now only a few people were able to see the data. However, the police investigation is still on whether the data has been leaked or not. It is being closely investigated.
Mother used to login with sons
The accused told during interrogation that their mother is an ANM (nurse) in Patna. His mother had got the government ID and password to know the data of those who took the Covid vaccine. His mother does not know much about computers. In such a situation, she used to login by giving ID and password to both her sons. Younger brother bypassed the ID and password. After this he made a bot and put it on Telegram channel.

The accused told that they had the ID and password of their mother. After this, he went ahead after studying on Google. So far no matter of money has come to the fore in the investigation. He gave such a way to hit the portal that if someone entered his mobile number, his complete details would come.
