New Delhi. If you cross the railway tracks illegally, then it is not good. Even if you are seen taking selfies on the tracks, you may have to go to jail. Railways has taken a tough stand on cases of crossing the tracks. The officials have been clearly instructed to arrest the people crossing the railway tracks illegally under various sections of the Railway Act and fine them, if necessary, send them to jail.

Shobhan Choudhury, General Manager, Northern Railway, held a review meeting with the five railway divisional managers and officers. In the meeting, the issue of crossing the tracks along with the encroachment near the railway tracks was discussed. Chaudhuri instructed to take strict steps regarding this. Said that he should be sent to jail under the Act. He advised to remove the encroachments near the tracks to ensure safety, so that there is no hindrance in the running of trains. In fact, due to encroachment, there is a disturbance at the railway gates and the operation of trains is disrupted. Apart from this, boundary wall is to be constructed on the sides of the high-speed rail section, so emphasis was laid on removal of encroachments.

It was said in the meeting that safety is paramount for the Railways. On the subject of improving infrastructure, the General Manager directed for timely completion of track doubling, signaling and enhancement of passenger amenities. Due to heavy rains, water-logging at many places on the tracks has caused difficulty in train operations at many places. Apart from this, the embankments of the railway lines have been filled with water due to the overflow of rivers and drains. This has caused problems in the operation of trains. In the meeting, it was asked to use additional pumps to remove the water accumulated in the railway tracks. The General Manager said that every effort should be made to provide freight services to all types of customers, from small traders to big FMCG and e-commerce giants.
