New Year celebrations were in full swing for the people of Delhi. There was a huge crowd in India Gate, Zoo, Connaught Place and Chandni Chowk and other markets. At the same time, crowds of people gathered at religious places also. Its effect was visible on the transportation system. There was huge crowd in Delhi Metro and buses. Seeing the situation going out of control, Delhi Police was forced to close many roads. By evening, there was jam on the roads due to increased traffic pressure, due to which vehicles were seen crawling. People had to struggle with traffic jams for a long time.
Lakhs of people came out of their homes to participate in the New Year celebrations. A huge crowd was seen at India Gate, Duty Path, Red Fort, Jama Masjid, Zoo, Old Fort, New Parliament House, Jantar Mantar, Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Sarojini Nagar, Khan Market, NSP, Rajouri Garden and other places. A fair-like atmosphere was visible from Connaught Place to India Gate. Along with adults, small children were also seen holding balloons in their hands. Despite the biting cold, people’s enthusiasm did not diminish.
People took a lot of selfies on the way to duty. As the crowd increased in Connaught Place, there was a jam. There was no space to stand at the bus stand. The traffic police had to close various routes from India Gate to Connaught Place by placing barricades. A large number of people were seen at all the historical places including Connaught Place, India Gate. Due to overcrowding, hundreds of passengers were seen waiting for the bus. Suman, who was going to Harinagar, told that she has been waiting for the bus for the last half an hour, but the bus has not arrived yet.
Auto drivers charged arbitrary fares
Seeing the jam on the road, people resorted to autos. Auto drivers collected arbitrary fare from passengers. Preeti, who was waiting for the bus at Jantar Mantar, said that there was a lot of crowd, so she decided to go home by auto. He told that auto drivers are charging more fare, where it used to be Rs 80, they are asking for Rs 150.
