Date 26 November 2016… A news comes around 11 in the morning. Fidel Castro is no more. But who was this Fidel Castro, whose death was one of the biggest headlines of 26 November for the media all over the world? Let us tell you today in this article the story of the same person, whom America, which is called the super power country of the world, tried to kill 638 times in 60 years. But he escaped every time by lighting his cigar and breathing death into the smoke.
Student politics and dictatorship
Fidel Castro was born on August 13, 1926 in a prosperous family in Cuba. Actually, Fidel’s father Angel Castro y Argiz was in the Spanish army, but during the 1890s, when the war was going on between America and Spain, he came to Cuba and never returned to his job. Here he set up his business and became a landlord. He then married a woman named Lina Ruiz Gonzales, with whom he had seven children. Fidel Castro was also one of them. Fidel completed his schooling in a school near his home. But later he reached Cuba’s capital Havana to study law.
On reaching there, he understood student politics and jumped into taking part in it. This was the same period when a dictatorial government was running in Cuba. A few days later, news came that Fulgencio Batista, who used to support America, toppled the old government of Cuba i.e. the government of President Trujillo and started running a dictatorial government himself. It is said about President Fulgencio Batista that he did not pay attention to the citizens of his country for the interests of America and poverty, unemployment and corruption reached its peak in the country.
Flag of revolution and 15 years in jail
Fidel Castro was troubled by the actions of the current government and its corrupt policies. These things started troubling him so much that on July 26, 1953, he decided to fight this dictatorial government in the field. Fidel took with him his brother Raul Castro and 100 people and attacked a military barracks located in Santiago de Cuba. But Fidel Castro and his comrades failed in this and were caught.
In this case, when the trial of Fidel Castro was going on, he screamed and said, ‘I am not afraid.’ Certainly not with this cruel man (President Fulgencio Batista). He has killed seventy of my brothers. Condemn me for this attack. But history will absolve me of every crime. Well, Fidel Castro and his associates were jailed for 15 years for this attack. However, Batista’s dictatorial government could not keep Fidel in jail for long. In 1954, Batista released Fidel Castro from prison.
Heroic image and guerrilla warfare
After being released from jail, Fidel Castro went to Mexico. There he began gathering arms and men against Batista’s dictatorial government. After this he started guerrilla war against Batista. Fidel troubled Batista so much that Fulgencio Batista even told his soldiers not to rest until Fidel Castro was killed.
While the Cuban dictatorial government was bent on killing Fidel Castro, on the other hand Fidel was making his image like a hero in American newspapers. Every day his news and picture were published in big newspapers there and around the world. A 30-year-old boy with a beard and a cigar in his hand is standing against the dictatorial government of Cuba. These things were making Fidel Castro a hero. His craze was increasing among the youth and every youth wanted to join him.
Cuba’s hero a villain for America
Fidel Castro was building his image as a hero in America. On the other hand, even after getting America’s support, Batista was not able to do anything. A few days passed and then Batista realized that he would no longer be able to run his dictatorship in Cuba. He fled Cuba in 1959. This opportunity proved to be icing on the cake for Fidel and Fidel Castro took power in Cuba.
As soon as he came to power, the world saw a new side of Fidel Castro. In fact, one day news came that 500 officers who were with Batista were shot in Cuba. Even after this, Fidel Castro’s government functioned well for a few days. But by 1960, Fidel Castro’s relations with America started deteriorating. Actually, Fidel Castro was starting to get closer to Russia. He strengthened his business relations with Russia. All this was making America unhappy and gradually he became a villain for America.
638 deadly attacks took place
The year was 1961, Fidel Castro suddenly asked the American Embassy to reduce the number of its employees from 60 to 18. America was upset by this and ended all its relations with Cuba. After this, the distance between America and Cuba increased so much that no American President visited Cuba for 55 years.
In 2015, when US President Obama visited Cuba, relations between the two countries improved slightly. However, in the meantime, 11 presidents came and went in America and it was said that between the arrival and departure of these presidents, Fidel Castro was attacked about 638 times. But every time Fidel Castro escaped death like a hero.
