The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
In the 2022 Gujarat elections, the Jasdan assembly seat in Rajkot district was one of the important seats in the state. In the last elections held here, there has been a contest between the ruling party BJP and the main opposition Congress. This time the Aam Aadmi Party was also in the fray with full force. BJP candidate Kunwarjibhai Mohanbhai Bavaliya won this election. Bavaliya defeated Aam Aadmi Party’s Tejsabhai Gajipara by 16,172 votes.
He has also been given a big responsibility in the Gujarat government formed on Monday. Bavaliya has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Water Resources and Water Supply, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection in the Bhupendra government.
Congress won here in 2017
The Congress had won this seat in the 2017 assembly elections. INC candidate Kunvarjibhai Mohanbhai Bavaliya defeated BJP’s Bharat Boghra by just nine thousand votes. A total of 15 candidates were in the fray in this election. Barring the candidates of BJP and Congress, the deposits of the remaining 13 were forfeited.
Prior to 2017, the Congress had won this seat in the 2012 elections. Bholabhai Gohel, who contested from Congress, defeated BJP candidate Bharat Boghra.
Congress MLA changed sides in 2018
Congress MLA Kunwarjibhai Mohanbhai Bavaliya, who won on a Congress ticket in 2017, said goodbye to the party in 2018. However, in the by-election, he led the BJP to victory, the party’s first win on the seat.
Sitting MLA got BJP ticket
The BJP had fielded sitting MLA Kunwarjibhai Mohanbhai Bavaliya on this seat for the 2022 elections. At the same time, the Congress had fielded former MLA Bholabhai Bhikhabhai Gohel as its candidate from here. Tejasbhai Gazipara was in the fray from the Aam Aadmi Party. The seat went to polls in the first phase on December 1. The results came on 8 December.
BJP won six seats in Rajkot district in 2017
Jasdan assembly seat is one of the eight assembly constituencies in Rajkot district. In 2017, the BJP had won six of the eight seats in the district. At the same time, the Congress was successful in winning two seats.
