Chaitra and Sharadiya Navratri Significance

Chaitra Navratri – Chaitra Navratri is also known as ‘Vasant Navratri’ or ‘Ram Navratri’, as the ninth day of Navratri festival is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Rama. According to religious texts, the vehicles of Goddess Durga are elephant, horse, boat and palanquin. The ride of Maa Durga is decided according to the day. When Navratri starts from Tuesday then the vehicle is horse which is considered inauspicious. At the same time, during Navratri, which starts from Thursday, Mother Goddess comes to earth sitting in a doli, this is considered a sign of loss of life or Tandav.

  • Wear clean clothes after bathing for Ghatasthapana on the first day of Navratri.
  • After cleaning the temple, first take the name of Lord Ganesha and then light the Akhand Jyot in the name of Maa Durga.
  • To establish the Kalash, put soil in an earthen vessel and sow barley seeds in it.
  • Now make a Swastika with Roli on a copper pot. Tie Mauli in the upper part of the pot. Now mix water and Ganga water in this pot.
  • Add 1.25 rupees, doob, betel nut, perfume and akshat in it. After this, put five Ashoka or mango leaves in the Kalash.
  • Now wrap a coconut in a red cloth and tie it to Molly. Then place the coconut on top of the Kalash.
  • Now spread a red cloth on the Ishaan corner puja post. On this, place the Kalash exactly in the middle of the earthen pot in which you have sown barley. Keep mother’s photo. Along with the installation of the Kalash, a resolution is taken to observe the nine fasts of Navratri.
