The electoral chessboard has started being laid in the country. The announcement of Bharat Ratna to the country’s well-known farmer leader Chau Charan Singh has created enthusiasm in the politics of Jatland of Aligarh district. This is also reasonable, because Chaudhary Charan Singh had a deep connection with the politics of Aligarh. His reign lasted here for three decades. His interference in the politics of the district can be gauged from the fact that his wife and daughter were MLAs from here. Even today, the reins of his political party Lok Dal are being handled by the descendants of his close friend Ch. Shivdan Singh. Yes, it is a different matter that after Chau Charan Singh, there was distance between these two families. But if we look at the history, Charan Singh has a very deep connection with Aligarh.

Let us look at the political past of Ch. Charan Singh after independence. Charan Singh was with Congress only. Gradually three factions of UP were formed in the party. In which one group was formed of CB Gupta of Aligarh, the other of Kamlapati Tripathi of Purvanchal and the third of Charan Singh of West. Among these, the Kamalapati Tripathi faction included Mohanlal Gautam from Aligarh, while the Charan Singh faction included powerful Jat leader Chaudhary of Iglas. Was Shivdan Singh. The result of this factionalism was that Congress canceled the ticket of Shivdan Singh from Iglas and fielded Mohanlal Gautam in the 1967 elections. Charan Singh was very angry with this. Regarding all these things, he formed a separate organization BKD, in which parties like Socialist, Jan Sangh etc. were included. This party together formed the government in 1967 itself and Charan Singh himself became the Chief Minister. Two years later, he dissolved the assembly and held elections again in 1969 and made his wife Gayatri Devi contest from Iglas under the BKD banner. This party won a total of four seats from Aligarh. This party won 125 seats in UP. Iglas was the political center of this party and Shivdan Singh was their representative. From here the politics of the state started.
Lok Dal did not get recognition, BKD remained the banner
In the 1974 elections, Charan Singh applied for recognition of the party in the name of Lok Dal. But due to lack of recognition, the elections were contested under the banner of BKD. Along with this, the new banner of Lok Dal was also hoisted in the elections. Many stalwarts of the country like Karpoori Thakur, Biju Patnaik, Devi Lal, Siddaramaiah etc. were with this team. BKD won Iglas and Gangiri seats in this election. The history of capturing all seven seats after the Emergency was also created in 1977 under the leadership of Charan Singh. Under his leadership, all the anti-Congress parties contested the elections in the name of Janata Party. In Aligarh, his close associates Rajendra Singh, Babu Singh, Mohajjij Ali Baig won the elections. Jan Sangh’s Kalyan Singh and Kishanlal Diler won. The 1980 elections were contested in the name of Janata Party Socialist. In this election he announced Rajendra Singh as his successor. Rajendra Singh was made the leader of the opposition party. This time also three seats were won from the district.
