These days, Education Department Additional Secretary KK Pathak is making continuous efforts to improve the quality of teachers in Bihar and ensure that children get quality education. He is continuously inspecting schools regarding this, but Darbhanga district is once again in the headlines. The reason is that a wrong fact about Darbhanga is being taught to the students by Bihar Board in the ninth class Geography book.
what is written in the book
Information about rivers in drainage pattern is given in the ninth class Geography book “India: Land and People Chapter Three” published by Bihar State Textbook Publishing Corporation on behalf of Bihar State Education Research and Training Council. Facts related to the reservoir (lake) have been mentioned on page number 39 of this book. ‘You are familiar with the reservoirs like Dal Lake and Wular Lake of Kashmir, Nainital, Sanwar Lake of Rajasthan, Kanwar Bird Sanctuary of Begusarai, Saraiyaman of Bettiah, Laxmi Sagar of Darbhanga. Along with being a means of human use, they are also a center of attraction for tourists. This is an excerpt from that book, whereas there is a small pond in Laxmisagar Mohalla of Darbhanga. Much bigger ponds like Harahi, Digdhi, Gangasagar etc. are located in the middle of the city. The students of Darbhanga are not able to understand how the small pond of Laxmisagar Mohalla became a lake. In the book it has been discussed in the form of a lake, whereas the truth is that its geographical form is also not like a lake. Leave aside the tourists, even the local people do not go there due to the alleged attraction of this pond.
What does the District Education Officer say?
In this regard, District Education Officer Samar Bahadur Singh said that there is a big pond in Lakshmisagar Mohalla. The tourism department has probably planned to convert this pond into a lake. For this reason, Laxmisagar Lake has been mentioned in the book.
