Mallikarjun Kharge supported farmers protest: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday supported the farmers’ movement and alleged that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke the promises made to the farmers of the country. He claimed that the government is now trying to control the voice of farmers.
Kharge posted on social media platform ‘He said,’ Do you remember that he was maligned by calling me an “agitator” and a “parasite” and had taken the lives of 750 farmers. ,
Kharge alleged, ‘In 10 years, the Modi government has broken its three promises made to the farmers of the country – doubling the income of farmers by 2022, implementation of 50 percent MSP as per the Swaminathan report, and legal status to MSP.’
Kharge said, ‘Now the time has come to raise the voice of 62 crore farmers. Today in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, Congress Party will raise the voice of “Kisan Nyay”. He said, ‘We have full support to the farmers’ movement. Will not be afraid, will not bow down!’
Farmers marching to Delhi
Farmers from Punjab started their Delhi Chalo march on Tuesday morning after a meeting with two central leaders remained inconclusive on their demands including legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) for crops. Farmers plan to march towards Delhi from Ambala-Shambhu, Khanauri-Jind and Dabwali borders. Many farmers started the march with their tractor-trolleys from Fatehgarh Sahib around 10 am and they are moving towards Delhi through Shambhu border. Another group from Mahal Kalan in Sangrur is marching towards Delhi through Khanauri border.
In Haryana, the administration has tightened security along the state’s borders with Punjab at several places in Ambala, Jind, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra and Sirsa, using concrete barriers, iron nails and barbed wire. Anti-riot vehicles, including water cannon vehicles, have also been deployed at many places on the borders of Punjab and Haryana. Haryana government has also imposed restrictions under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in 15 districts, under which there is a ban on the gathering of five or more people and any kind of demonstration with tractor-trolleys.
Strict security arrangements have been made on the borders of Delhi by installing multi-layered barriers, concrete barriers, iron nails and container walls. Farmers are carrying dry ration, mattresses and utensils along with other essential items on tractor-trolleys. There was an excavator in the tractor trolley convoy. A farmer in Amritsar said that it would be used to break barricades.
