Water found on meteorites for the first time, scientists excited, will find out where water came from on Earth

There are various claims about where water came from on Earth. But most scientists believe that millions of years ago, huge objects came from space and fell on Earth and brought with them water and precious things like gold, silver and diamonds. Now for the first time evidence of this seems to be available. Scientists have claimed to have found evidence of water for the first time on the surface of two asteroids or meteorites found in space. From this we can know where the water in our solar system came from?

Scientists at the Southwest Research Institute analyzed data collected by the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy. This is a telescope, which is operated by the American space agency NASA and the German Aerospace Center. The names of the asteroids that were studied are Iris and Malisa. Scientists claim that for the first time such strong evidence has been found, which can reveal where water would have come from on our earth?

Surface of iris and melissa rich in water
According to the report published in The Planetary Science Journal, abundant amounts of silicate have been found on the surface of both Iris and Melissa. Silicate made of water molecules trapped in glass. These appear to be chemically bound to other minerals on the asteroid. Anisia Arredondo, the lead author of the research and asteroid researcher, has herself posted about it on the social media platform X. He wrote, for the first time we have detected a feature on asteroids that clearly indicates the presence of water. This discovery will help scientists understand how water reached the Earth.

Water was discovered on the moon with this technology
Let us tell you that the instrument used in this research, Sophia, had earlier detected water in the southern part of the Moon. Arredondo and his team saw four asteroids, which also included Parthenope and Melpomene. Three of these asteroids showed absorption at a wavelength of 3 micrometres, but Iris and Massalia showed absorption at 6 micrometres. This indicated that it definitely had something like water. Arredondo said, this is the first time that water molecules have been found on the surface of an asteroid in space. We have done this research on the technology which revealed that there is water on the surface of the moon.
