Semiconductor plants in India: India’s Electronics and IT Minister has informed that very soon two semiconductor fabrication plants are going to be set up in India at a cost of multi-billion dollars i.e. billions of rupees.
In an interview given to PTI, Electronics and IT Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar said that two full-fledged semiconductor fabrication plants will be set up in India by spending billions of rupees, in which apart from several chip assembly and packaging units, billions of dollars will be invested.
Two fully developed semiconductor plants will be set up in India
The minister confirmed that both these projects include an $8 billion proposal submitted by Israel-based Tower Semiconductors and the other by Tata Group. Giving detailed information about this, Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar said, I am very happy to tell you this and you will probably be the first person to whom I am telling that very soon two full-fledged fabs will come in India. Are going to. “These will be multi-billion cost fabs in 65, 40 and 28-nanometer technology and there are many other packaging proposals coming up that we are evaluating.”
Rajeev Chandrashekhar further said, “I can safely tell you that the names you have mentioned have presented these large, very credible, very significant investment proposals. There are also other announced proposals by Tata in Fab. We hope that all this is going to happen very soon.”
Government received many proposals
The government has received 4 proposals for setting up semiconductor manufacturing plants, and 13 proposals for chip assembly, testing monitoring and packaging (ATMP) units. “These proposals are in addition to the Rs 22,516 crore chip assembly plant being set up in Gujarat by US-based memory chip maker Micron,” Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajiv Chandrashekhar had said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
Rajiv Chandrashekhar had informed during the Lok Sabha session that four proposals have been received for setting up semiconductor fabs and 13 additional proposals have been received for setting up compound semiconductor fabs and ATMPS (Assembly, Testing Marking and Packaging) units.
