Afzal Ansari said, “I have been looted by the government machinery. This time I will contest elections by selling my grandfather’s land and will win. Modi magic will not work here.” According to India Today report, he claimed that this time the poor people of Ghazipur will support him.

‘BJP will not benefit from Ram temple’
Ram Mandir On the question of BJP benefiting from the construction of Ram Mandir, he said that Ram Mandir is a symbol of faith and no one has any dispute regarding Ram. In such a situation, BJP is not going to get any benefit from it.

Afzal Ansari won the elections in 2019
Afzal Ansari had contested the elections in 2019 on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket and won despite the Modi wave. He defeated BJP leader Manoj Sinha. However, the membership was lost in 2023, which was later reinstated by the Supreme Court.

Afzal Ansari was sentenced to four years imprisonment by the MP-MLA court under the Gangster Act. Afzal is accused of being involved in the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai in 2005. Apart from this, the court had also announced 10 years imprisonment to his brother Mukhtar Ansari in the same case. At present he is out of jail on bail.

Ansari, who started his political career from the Communist Party of India, has been elected as MLA 5 times and MP twice. In 2004 also he reached Lok Sabha by winning the elections. Recently he left BSP and joined SP.
