Two people doing metal detecting work found some coins by chance. When these 122 Anglo Saxons were auctioned, they got three times more than the expected price, which was around Rs 3 crore 42 lakh. These coins were found near Bretree in Essex. It is believed that he was buried in the year 1066. This is the same year when there was a fight for the throne of England between the forces of England and Norman. Experts say that it is possible that these could not be found because the person who buried them may have died in the war.
These coins were auctioned for Rs 3 crore 42 lakh in London’s Nuncun’s Mayfair on Wednesday. It was expected that the value of these coins was estimated to be around Rs 1.9 crore. Now both the owner of the land and the person who found it will get the amount received.
Both metal detectors discovered 144 coins in 2019, of which 16 have been purchased by Colchester Museum and Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge under the 1996 Treason Act. Two of these were Byzantine coins of the 11th century. After this, in 2023, the remaining coins were returned to those who investigated them.

Nunans Mayfair auctioned 122 of these coins, the rest of which were given to the finders. It is believed that these coins were minted in 1061, after which they were buried five years later. The interesting thing is that both the researchers were searching for such coins for 20 years and they found only copper coins. But the Minelab CTX 3030 found signals that were difficult to detect, just four inches beneath the ground, and found half a dozen coins within a thirty-meter radius, and then 70 more in the next few days, and 70 more in 2020.
