The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
BJP had fielded Vijaybhai Patel from Dangs assembly seat in Dangs district. In front of him was Mukeshbhai Patel of Congress. Vijaybhai Patel of BJP defeated Mukeshbhai Patel of INC by 19,674 votes. BJP candidate got 62,533 votes while Congress got 42,859 votes here. Vijaybhai Patle, who won on a BJP ticket, has been an MLA from here in 2007 as well. The BJP has been able to win the Dangs seat reserved for the tribal community only twice so far. Both the times only Vijaybhai Patel has fed the lotus here.
BSP candidate including three bail forfeited
AAP stood third in this election, its candidate Sunilbhai Gamit got 20,822 votes. However, he could not save his bail. Along with him, the deposits of three other candidates, including the BSP candidate, were also forfeited. NOTA got 1,910 votes here. Sunilbhai Gambit had earlier won on a Congress ticket in 2012 as well.
Congress got victory in 2017
The Congress had won the Dangs assembly seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, Congress had nominated Mangal Bhai Gamit as its candidate from this seat. He defeated BJP’s Vijaybhai Patel by just 768 votes. Here a total of five candidates were in the fray. Apart from these two, the deposits of the other three candidates were forfeited. Talking about the electoral history of Dangs seat, this seat has traditionally been considered a Congress bastion. Congress has won this seat seven times so far.
