CAA Rules Notification: The Modi government at the BJP-led Center on Monday (March 11, 2024) notified the rules under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and with this the law came into force in the country.
It took more than four years for the CAA rules to be notified as the law was passed by both houses of Parliament in December 2019 and also received the assent of the President. Timeline of events regarding CAA
December 11, 2019: Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) passed in Parliament. Two days later, the then President Ramnath Kovind approved it and it became a law (CAA).
December 15, 2019: Clashes broke out between students and police at Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University (JMI) and Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Women started protesting in Shaheen Bagh, Delhi. Protests had started in other parts of the country also.

January 30, 2020: A person opened fire on student protesters outside Jamia, in which a student was injured.
February 23, 2020: Communal violence broke out in northeast Delhi.
