Countless mysteries are hidden in the womb of the earth. When scientists reach them, we come to know about them. Which often surprises us. Scientists have found something similar in France. Excavation was going on there to build a highway, when some strange things were found inside the earth, seeing which the workers were left in tears. When these were scientifically investigated, the scientists were even more surprised. A 4000 year old secret has come out in the open.
According to the report of Live Science, construction work was going on in the city of Clermont-Ferrand in central France in the 1980s. But due to some reasons the work stopped. Later in 2019, the work of building the highway started here. Scientists did not know much about this place till then. But when the excavation started after that, 63 tombs and hundreds of artefacts were found. These are approximately 4,000 years old. And they were buried along with humans. France’s National Institute of Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP) gave this information.
then humans came to live here
Radiocarbon dating revealed that humans visited the area around 6000 BC, during the Mesolithic or Middle Stone Age. But the evidence of human habitation here dates back to the Neolithic period. Then humans built settlements here. Started farming. Some porcelain utensils and stoves were also found near the grave. The pits excavated appear to be from between 4750 and 4500 BC.

Archaeologists have found many types of graves here. Most of these are such in which a dead body has been buried without any decoration. That is, a pit was dug and buried in it in a simple manner. Some bodies have also been buried with their knees bent. So some were made to lie on their side with their knees bent. Researchers found several tombs made of dry stone, which were probably covered with mounds of earth. Many dead bodies were buried together in these.
Since then the practice of cremation started!
Archaeologists have also found cists or tombs made of long rocks. It seems that till this time people did not live at this place, but used it as a burial ground. By the 4th millennium BC, the practice of cremation had begun, as was discovered in two separate graves with cremated remains. According to radiocarbon dating of domestic structures from this time, people also moved back to the site.
