Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born as the 9th child in the house of Shri Jagannath Mishra and Shachi Devi on the day of Phalguna Purnima in Samvat 1407. Usually a child is born after staying in the mother’s womb for 9 months, but the birth of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is considered miraculous and mysterious. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s parents had eight daughters but they died as soon as they were born. Seeing Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s devotion, love and feelings towards Shri Krishna, many became his disciples.

Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had laid the foundation of Gaudiya sect of Vaishnavas. He had two wives, when the first wife died due to snake bite, he had to marry a second time to carry forward the dynasty. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu spent some of the last moments of his life in Vrindavan.
