Why is World Poetry Day celebrated?

Celebrated for the first time in the year 1999
In the year 1999, on March 21, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Sanskrit Organization i.e. UNESCO started celebrating this day as World Poetry Day. This was announced in the thirtieth United Nations conference held in Paris. Its objective was to promote people’s expression through poetry. To promote different languages of the world and their cultures. According to UNESCO records, the Moroccan National Commission had requested to celebrate this day as Poetry Day.
