Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Yusuf Pathan, Trinamool Congress candidate from Baharampur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal, will not be able to use the pictures of the tricolor and his 2011 World Cup victory during the election campaign. After the complaint of West Bengal Congress, the Election Commission has imposed these restrictions on Pathan. Congress had said in the complaint that Pathan was using pictures of Sachin Tendulkar and other players during the campaign. This is a violation of the code of conduct.
In a report quoting sources related to the Chief Electoral Officer in West Bengal, it was said that the Election Commission found the Congress’s complaint true in the investigation. After this, on Friday, Yusuf Pathan was told that all such posters or pictures put up in Baharampur Lok Sabha seat should be removed. Along with this, the Commission has instructed Pathan not to use the Indian flag during the election campaign.
What was Congress’s complaint?
Congress had written a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal saying that the use of photographs of the 2011 World Cup is a violation of the code of conduct. The Congress had written, “You are informed that Yusuf Pathan has started putting up banners, posts and photographs in the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency. These depict victorious moments of the 2011 World Cup and several legendary cricketers. Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar and Other players are also in the picture.” Congress candidate from Baharampur, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary said that Yusuf Pathan was showing Team India’s victory as his own victory.
Pathan gave clarification
Giving clarification in the matter, Yusuf Pathan said that he himself had not put up these posters and banners. Probably his fans have done this, who keep posting pictures of the World Cup victory anywhere. They have the right to do so. According to Pathan, he himself had not gone anywhere to put up posters. Now the team will see whether there is a violation of the code of conduct or not. Pathan said that he won the World Cup because of hard work.
