Apple Device Production: April 3, 2024 i.e. yesterday, a massive earthquake of 7.4 reactor scale occurred in Taiwan and Japan, which was the strongest earthquake in the last 25 years. In this incident many houses collapsed, people were killed and injured. Due to this earthquake, many big infrastructures in Taiwan also collapsed. The devastation caused by this terrible earthquake has been so severe that it can have a direct impact on the production and launch of Apple devices. Let us tell you the reason.
Chip factory destroyed due to earthquake
Actually, according to a report by MacRumors, due to the earthquake in Taiwan, many infrastructures there have been badly damaged, including TSMC’s manufacturing sites. TSMC produces all of Apple’s custom chips, which are used in Used in devices like iPhone, iPad and AppleTV. All these devices of Apple use M1 processor along with A-series processor, and all these chips are produced in Taiwan’s TSMC manufacturing factory.
Due to the earthquake in Taiwan, many TSMC manufacturing sites there have been destroyed, due to which there may be a delay in the production of Apple devices like iPhone, iPad and MacBook. This delay may also affect the launch of these upcoming devices of Apple.
According to MacRumors report, beams, columns and roof of TSMC’s N3 fabrication plant in Taiwan broke, due to which the production of chips completely stopped. Due to this, EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet) machines important for manufacturing processes below 7nm have been affected, which have now stopped working.
Heavy damage to iPhone chip manufacturing buildings
Apart from this, research and development laboratories have also suffered a lot, such as walls of laboratories collapsed, cracks appeared in many walls, many roofs collapsed, many buildings were damaged. Similarly, in another fabrication plant in Hsinchu, there have been reports of pipelines breaking and significant damage to the wafers. Due to this, the production of chips for Apple devices has completely stopped.
The chips used in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, such as the 3nm A17 Pro, are said to be manufactured by TSMC, and need to operate continuously and maintain stable vacuum settings for weeks. >
Now, due to the dangerous earthquake in Taiwan, manufacturing sites have been damaged and the closure of production means that some of the advanced chips being made there may have been damaged. Even if they were not directly damaged during the earthquake, the halt in production still means that Taiwan’s chip manufacturing sites suffered significant damage due to the earthquake.
Delays expected in Apple device production
According to the report, TSMC is assessing the damage caused by the earthquake and is aiming to restart at least a part of production as soon as possible, from today i.e. April 4. However, no concrete information has been revealed yet as to what effect this earthquake may have on Apple due to the devastation, but after such a huge loss in Taiwan, it is being strongly estimated that now Apple’s There may be a delay in the production of some devices and due to this the launch of some Apple devices may also be delayed.
Currently, Apple is working to increase the production of its new product Vision Pro, because it wants to make its headset available in many markets of the world. Apart from this, according to many reports, Apple is launching a new iPad Air, Mac Studio and Mac Pro, iPhone 16 Series, Apple Watch Series 10 and Also working on Apple Watch Ultra 3.
