With the passage of time many animals and plants have become extinct and still many plants are becoming extinct. Efforts are being made to save them. A similar effort is now going to be made in the capital Delhi. Actually, to save the local plants of Delhi, the Forest Department is going to build a tissue culture lab in Asola Bhati Wildlife Sanctuary. Its goal is to protect plant species and the environment.
According to reports, the Forest Department official has said that due to the abundance of Vilayati Kikar, it has become difficult to save some plant species. Additional Chief Conservator of Forest of the Forest Department said that this species is not thriving because of the exotic Kikar. The department has also prepared a list of such species. This includes Hingot, Khair, Bistendu, Siris, Palash, Chamrod, Dudhi, Dhau, Desi Babul and Kulu etc.
If the bidder does not come…
An official of the Forest Department said that the tender process for the construction of this lab has started. If the bidder does not come, then the Irrigation and Flood Control Department will be asked to build this lab. The lab will need botanists and forest staff. The department will get the help of botanists and scientists from the Forest Research Institute of Dehradun and the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education.
Once the lab is ready, many plants will be prepared from plant tissue of big trees. At the same time, biodiversity experts say that this process should be done only with very few plants left. Whereas ecologists say that making plants from tissue is a kind of cloning. According to the Forest Department, before planting the plants, it will be ensured that there is no disease or virus at the cloning stage. In this lab, those species will be regenerated which are not easily available.
