Tanmay Vekaria was born in the year 1981 in Surat, Gujarat. Tanmay belonged to a Gujarati family and his family was middle class. Apart from Tanmay, he has a younger brother who is now working as a CA. Tanyam joined theater after graduation because he wanted to become an actor.

Tanmay Vekariya told that he had joined a theater in Surat, Gujarat. He was doing good work there but was not able to earn income in theatre. When his father pressurized him for a job, he took a job with his maternal uncle who was a CA and lived in Mumbai. Tanmay was getting a salary of Rs 700 from his uncle’s house and this was not enough to meet his expenses, yet he continued to struggle.
Along with his job, he also did theatre. In his initial days, Tanmay worked with Disha Vakani in Dilip Joshi’s play. After many years of trouble, he got a show in which he played the role of Smriti Irani’s younger brother. After this he used to get small jobs which were cameo type in TV shows. Tanmay Vekariya told that he faced setbacks and troubles for almost 10 years and during that time he also went into depression.
In the year 2010, he got Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah which changed his fortunes. The actor told that he had given that audition reluctantly but it proved to be like a magical shower and he became a star overnight.
