Do you know that precious metals like gold and platinum are found in many places on Earth, but they are not produced on Earth. Scientists say that such metal can be formed in a very hot environment like a supernova explosion. After studying the explosion of one such fresh but powerful supernova, scientists were surprised to find that such metals were not formed in it at all.
On October 9, 2022, an extraordinary surge of intense radiation was observed throughout the solar system. This unprecedented event was immediately dubbed BOAT by astronomers as the brightest event ever seen. This event was identified as a gamma-ray burst (GRB) and is the most powerful class of explosions known in the universe.
Scientists have found that no gold or platinum was created by this brightest supernova. After microscopic analysis of the collected data, astronomers have come to know a lot about the very deep impact of this incident. On the basis of these, he has revealed surprising results regarding this huge cosmic event.

This burst of light has been called GRB 221009A. It happened two billion light years away and for a moment the space instruments were dazzled. Contrary to expectations, researchers found no trace of precious metals like platinum and gold, which are commonly associated with supernovae, in a recent analysis using data from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).
Dr Peter Blanchard, who led the study, said: “When we confirmed that GRBs were produced by the collapse of a massive star, it gave us the opportunity to test a hypothesis that some of the heaviest elements in the universe How are they born? The absence of these heavy elements challenges existing theories about their formation and is now being investigated further into cosmic processes.
“We did not see signatures of these heavy elements, which suggests that highly energetic GRBs like BOAT do not produce these elements,” said Blanchard. This doesn’t mean that all GRBs don’t produce them, but it is an important piece of information as we continue to understand where these heavy elements come from. “Future observations with JWST will determine whether BOAT’s ‘normal’ cousins produce these elements.”
The exact cause of the supernova’s brightness remains uncertain, with researchers speculating that the release of a powerful plasma jet may have contributed to its intensity. GRB 221009A is considered to be the brightest burst in X-ray and gamma-ray energy.
