The party’s Prayagraj division zone in-charge Jagannath Pal, who was declared the BSP candidate from Phulpur parliamentary seat, has been among the people close to Kanshi Ram. Even when Kanshi Ram contested the Lok Sabha elections from Phulpur, his central restaurant and central office were run from Jagannath Pal’s house.
BSP has also tried to attract OBC voters by declaring him as its candidate, which will pose challenges to the opposition parties. It may be Jagannath Pal’s first Lok Sabha election, but during his association with Kanshi Ram, he learned all the tricks of politics.
According to Jagannath, he does not remember when he joined BSP, but he remembers that in 1988, when Kanshi Ram’s program was organized in St. Joseph’s College, he also participated and joined them since then.
He retired in 1993 due to a leg injury while serving in the army and after this became active in politics. He held many important positions in BSP. Assembly General Secretary of BSP from 1995 to 1997, District Vice President from 1997 to 1999. He was the zone in-charge of Mirzapur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Devi Pathan Mandal at different times and is currently holding the responsibility of zone in-charge of Prayagraj Mandal.
