Children Obesity: Obesity is dangerous at any age. It is also the cause of many chronic diseases. Many studies have found that increasing obesity not only increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, metabolic disorders but also cancer. In people who already have heart problems, increasing obesity can increase the risk of heart attack. According to health experts, obesity is increasing rapidly among children these days, which is becoming a challenge for their health in many ways. Generally, the reason for this is considered to be excessive consumption of junk and processed foods, but recent studies have found that there can be many other reasons for increasing obesity in children. Disturbance in lifestyle is also one of the reasons.
Obesity among children in India
Based on several studies in the last few years, researchers said that by the year 2030, one in 10 obese children will be from India. After China and America, the greatest danger is being seen in India. A report published in The Lancet in March 2024 showed that obesity at the global level had increased by 4.5 times from 1990 to 2022. Its risk may increase even further. Researchers said that apart from junk-processed foods, increased screen time of children could be the main reason for this.
Which children are at greater risk of obesity?
Children and teenagers who spend too much time on TV, mobile or computer are at risk of reduced oxygen usage during exercise, high blood pressure and obesity. Researchers analyzed hundreds of children in New Zealand until they were 25 years old. Dr. Bob Hancox, author of the study, said that children who spent more time on screens, had less physical activities or had poor eating habits, were more likely to be obese.
Ways to reduce obesity in children
Health experts said, children should be as physically active as possible. They should make changes in their daily routine to reduce screen time or avoid obesity. Activities like playing outside, cycling should be increased. To control weight, the quality of sleep should be improved.
