The space rock remained a mystery, research claimed, it had created a crater on the Moon without colliding.

Scientists have found that a unique asteroid is responsible for the formation of a crater in the Moon, which is currently revolving around the Sun, but has never collided with the Moon. In the new study, scientists have considered a rock responsible for this crater which had remained a first for scientists for the last many years. Many scientists were earlier considering this rock to be an asteroid which might have come from outside the solar system. But now scientists have said that it was because of this asteroid that the crater was formed on the Moon.

In the year 2016, scientists had seen a mysterious rock in space. Its diameter was between 130 to 328 feet. Scientists named the asteroid Kamo’olewa. A research team led by Tsinghua University astronomer Yifei Xiao indicated that the rock was torn from a geological part of the moon known as Giordano Bruno Crater. This crater was named after a 16th century Italian cosmological theorist.

In a paper published in the journal Nature Astronomy, researchers have written that they have detected the processes of collision-induced transfer of lunar fragments into Earth’s co-orbital space. Kamo’olewa was most likely formed by the formation of the Giordano Bruno crater a few million years ago.

Researchers say this will directly link a specific asteroid in space to its source crater on the Moon and suggest the formation of more small asteroids made of lunar material that have yet to be discovered in near-Earth space. For years, astronomers have been fascinated by the space rock because it is orbiting the Sun in an Earth-like orbit and is likely to remain stable there for millions of years.

Researchers say that this piece must have once been part of the Moon because according to spectrum analysis, the rock completely matches the composition of the Moon. Using computer models, researchers discovered that a collision would have separated Kamo Oliva from the moon and created a 12-mile crater. He says that the Giordano crater of the Moon meets this calculation. This crater and rock must have separated 10 million years ago.
