Not everyone is destined to find buried treasure. But during the renovation of a couple’s house, a treasure of coins was found buried in the ground. It also included some rare and precious gold coins of the 17th century. The couple later revealed how they made a huge profit of Rs 63 lakh after discovering the treasure hidden under their floorboards.

Robert Fuchs and his wife Betty discovered a pile of coins under the floor while renovating the kitchen of their Dorset home. The 17th-century cash was in a broken bowl that was found by agricultural engineer Robert while working in his farmhouse. Now he has sold 1000 strong rare find in auction for Rs 6288351.

Robert and Betty found the coins when they decided to remove the concrete floor to increase the height of the kitchen. Shocked Betty while talking about this discovery said that her house is 400 years old so a lot of work had to be done in it.

“We were removing all the floors and ceilings and taking it back down to its stone walls,” Betty said. We decided to lower the ground floor to give more height to the ceilings. As Robert used the pickaxe in the light of the torch, he discovered a storehouse filled with 400. In this, years old coins were buried about two feet below the ground.”

The highest price for the gold crown of Charles I of 1636 was Rs 5 lakh 17 thousand, while another collector paid Rs 2 lakh 80 thousand for the coin of James I of 1621. Other currency included coins from the reigns of Elizabeth I and Philip and Mary. The 1,000 items fetched almost double the auctioneer’s estimate for the Duke.

This currency dates back to the English Civil War between 1642 and 1644. The cash was also sent to the British Museum for identification and cleaning. The 1,029 gold coins were ancient examples from the King James I and King Charles I mints.
