The deadline for filing nominations has approached but the opposition has not yet declared its candidate. Whereas, Smriti Irani is going to file her nomination on 29th April. Voting is to be held in Amethi on 20th May.

There is a discussion that apart from Wayanad, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi can also contest elections from Amethi, but after the posters in the name of his brother-in-law Robert Vadra were pasted in Amethi, the political atmosphere has become even more heated. The posters have intensified speculation about his possible candidature. This development comes amid rumors that Rahul Gandhi may contest from Amethi.

Smriti Irani’s attack on Rahul Gandhi

Smriti Irani alleged that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party did nothing for the progress of Amethi. The sitting BJP MP also said that Rahul Gandhi is expected to return to Amethi after the elections in Wayanad, Kerala. He said, “Rahul Gandhi has been the MP from Amethi and it is surprising that he did not pay attention to other needs including toilets.”

Apart from this, he attacked former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and said, “My mother did not run the government, but Rahul ji’s mother ran the government at the Centre, still why was nothing done for Amethi?” He said, “Congress is waiting for the elections in Wayanad, maybe after that they can come here to contest the elections.” Voting is to be held in Rahul Gandhi’s constituency Wayanad on April 26, while in Amethi, voting is to be held on May 20.
