Neighbours risked their lives and helped the fire brigade in taking out the newborn babies from the burning hospital. After bringing them out, they saw that the veins of many babies had turned black. The tubes in their noses and veins had melted. Their soft velvet-like skin had been scorched, but their heartbeats were still going on. This scene does not leave their minds. Kiran and her daughter-in-law Pooja, who live in the neighbourhood, started crying as soon as they remembered this scene.

Kiran Verma, who lives next to Baby Care New Born Hospital, was watching TV with her daughter-in-law Pooja after dinner at around 11 pm. Suddenly a loud explosion numbed their ears. Both of them screamed out of fear and the rest of the family members ran out of the house, somehow holding each other, wondering what happened. They saw outside that Baby Care New Born Hospital was burning fiercely. In this time, 12-13 explosions occurred one after the other.

Pooja said that we ran to the lane behind the hospital and saw that there was a net on the first floor of the hospital. There was a glass window above it, which some nurses were trying to break. The glass was thick and was not breaking. The room was filled with smoke. Everyone was suffocating, then the fire brigade personnel arrived, who broke the glass without any delay. All the female nurses together started handing over the babies down.

smoke filled the pipes

Kiran said that she carried 10 babies in her hands to the ambulance and PCR van. She wrapped them in clothes borrowed from the neighbourhood. Most of them had burnt skin. The plastic tubes in their nose and veins had turned black. Many tubes were stuck to their bodies. It felt as if the tubes were filled with smoke.
