MBBS course will start with 100 seats in Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, preparations complete


Another medical college has been added to the achievements of Gorakhpur. The foundation stone of this medical college (Shri Gorakhnath Medical College Hospital and Research Center) being established in Mahayogi Gorakhnath University was laid on Monday by the chief priest of Gorakhnath temple Yogi Kamalnath in the presence of the university’s vice-chancellor Major General Dr. Atul Vajpayee, former Drug Controller General of India Dr. GN Singh, Mahant Ravindradas of Kalibari and KK Construction’s director Jagdish Anand. After the foundation stone was laid amid Vedic chanting, Yogi Kamalnath laid the foundation stone of the hospital.

Medical college will be built in three phases

After the Bhoomi Pujan and foundation stone laying ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Vajpayee and Registrar Dr. Pradeep Kumar Rao said that this medical college will be built in three phases. In the first, second and third phases, a hospital of 600 beds each, i.e. a total of 1800 beds, will be built.

He said that this medical college established by Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad in Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath University is the dream project of Gorakshapeethadhiswar and Chief Minister of the state Yogi Adityanath. CM Yogi is also the Chancellor of this university.

Admission will be done on 100 seats now

According to Registrar Dr. Pradeep Kumar Rao, in the first year, admission will be taken on 100 MBBS seats in this medical college. It will be expanded to 150 seats in the second phase and 250 seats in the third phase.

With the opening of this medical college, not only will the talented students of Purvanchal get quality medical education near their homes, but people from Gorakhpur-Basti-Azamgarh division to western Bihar and the Terai region of Nepal will also get a new 1800-bed hospital equipped with ultra-modern superspeciality facilities and providing 24-hour service.

The third largest medical institution of the city

Vice Chancellor Dr. Vajpayee said that this will be the first private sector medical college in Gorakhpur after Varanasi and Lucknow. Also, after AIIMS Gorakhpur and Baba Raghav Das Medical College Gorakhpur, this will be the third largest medical institution in the city.

International level committee formed under the chairmanship of Dr. Sanjay Maheshwari

Registrar Dr. Pradeep Rao said that two committees at national and international level are cooperating for the establishment of the medical college and its development as a role model. The international level committee has been formed under the chairmanship of renowned cancer specialist and Medical Director of Birla Group of Hospitals, Dr. Sanjay Maheshwari.

It includes Dr. Sanjeev Sinha of AIIMS New Delhi, Dr. GN Singh, former Drugs Controller General of the Government of India, Dr. Raghavendra Rao of the United States of America, Dr. Asith Mally Pittsburgh and Dr. Keshav Das as members. This committee will mainly work to establish academic collaboration with equivalent institutions located within and outside the country.

Who all will be in the committee

The Registrar will be the Member Secretary in this committee. Along with this, the Project Monitoring Unit formed includes Vice Chancellor Major General Dr. Atul Vajpayee as Chairman, Colonel (Dr.) Rajendra Chaturvedi as Convenor, Dr. R Chandrashekhar as Principal Architect, GN Singh, Dr. Sanjay Maheshwari, Brigadier Deep Thakur, Architect Ashish Srivastava, RD Patel, Varun Bhargava, Rajesh Singh, SK Singh, AK Srivastava.

The then President had inaugurated the university

Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath University was inaugurated on 28 August 2021 by the then President Ram Nath Kovind. Now the dream of a medical college and a 1800-bed ultra-modern hospital is also going to come true. The medical college, which is starting with 100 seats in the first session, already has a 450-bed Gorakhnath Hospital. Soon a new 1800-bed hospital will also be added to it, on the basis of which the seats in the medical college will be expanded.

In the Bhoomi Pujan and foundation stone laying ceremony, Ramjanm Singh, Rajendra Bharti, Pramathanath Mishra of Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, Dr. Arun Kumar Singh, Manish Kumar Dubey, Pankaj Kumar, Chief Engineer of the University Neeraj Kumar Gautam, Architect Jasdeep Lamba, Chief Engineer Electricity Abhishek Mishra, Director of Guru Shri Gorakshanath Hospital Dr. DC Thakur, Blood Bank Incharge Dr. Awadhesh Kumar Agarwal, Chartered Accountant Anil Kumar Singh, Principal of Guru Shri Gorakshanath College of Nursing Dr. DS Ajitha, Dean of Faculty of Allied Health Sciences Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh participated.

Along with them, Principal of Ayurveda Faculty Dr. Manjunath NS, Dean of Agriculture Faculty Dr. Vimal Kumar Dubey, Principal of Pharmacy College Dr. Shashikant Singh, Principal of Mahant Avedyanath Paramedical College Rohit Kumar Srivastava, Deputy Registrar Administration Shrikant, Assistant Engineer Ashish Kumar Singh, Arun Kumar Agarwal etc. were also present.
