On May 25, driver Akhilesh Yadav and his accomplice Ranjit arrived on a scooter to murder Mohini Dubey (58), wife of retired IAS officer Devendra Dubey, in Sector 20 of Indiranagar, Lucknow. Ranjit hit Mohini on the head with a screwdriver and Akhilesh strangled her with a dupatta.
After this, both of them ran away after looting jewellery worth one crore. Akhilesh’s brother Ravi was involved in the conspiracy. Police disclosed the incident on Tuesday and arrested all three.
Akhilesh told the police that when he rang the bell, Mohini opened the door. He said, his friend Ranjit needs help. He needs a job. On this, Mohini said, call him. After coming inside, both of them touched her feet.
Then suddenly Ranjit attacked Mohini with a screwdriver and Akhilesh started strangulating her with a dupatta. When she stopped breathing, they let go of the dupatta. Then they filled the jewellery in a bag and fled on a scooter.
I knew the maid had gone to the wedding
Devendra had told the police that Mohini used to open the door only when someone familiar came. When she saw Akhilesh, she immediately opened the door. Akhilesh and Ravi knew that the maid had gone to a wedding on 25 May, so they decided to commit the crime on Saturday. They knew that no one would come between seven in the morning and around ten in the morning.
