Since then, the trend of wearing black coat in court started. In India, it was made mandatory for lawyers to wear black coat in the year 1961. Actually, advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi has requested the court in his petition that lawyers should be exempted from wearing black coat and gown in the summer months. In the petition, he has said that in the increasing heat, this can cause trouble and health related problems to the lawyers. In the petition, he has said that black coat and gown were implemented as British dress code. However, while implementing it, the country’s climate was not taken into consideration.

Why does black colour feel hot?
