PoK is not part of Pakistan government confession in Islamabad High Court missing Kashmiri poet ahmad farhad case hearing

Pakistan On PoK: The Islamabad High Court on Friday (May 31) rejected a plea to close the case related to the whereabouts of Kashmiri poet Ahmed Farhad and directed authorities to first produce him before the court. Ahmed Farhad went missing from Rawalpindi on May 14, a day after his wife Urooj Zainab filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to trace him.

‘PoK is not ours but a foreign territory’

In this case, the Federal Prosecutor General (Government lawyer) was defending the government regarding poet Ahmed Farhad who was kidnapped from Islamabad. He said in the court, “Ahmed Farhad cannot be presented before the Islamabad court because POK is not ours but a foreign territory. After this, the High Court was also surprised at the claim of the government lawyer and said that if POK is a foreign territory, then how did the Pakistani Rangers enter there from Pakistan.”

The Pakistani journalist expressed his displeasure over the claim of the public prosecutor and posted on X. He wrote, “This claim of the public prosecutor is raising many questions about the situation in Azad Kashmir. If Azad Kashmir is not ours, then how did the Pakistani soldier get deployed in a foreign area.”

‘Poet Farhad in custody of POK police’

Farhad, famous for his rebellious poetry, was kidnapped from his house. Earlier on Wednesday (May 29), Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan told the High Court that poet Farhad was arrested and is in the custody of the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) police. The PoK police said that poet Farhad is in their custody and a case has been registered against him in the Dhirkot area.

Hearing held in Islamabad High Court

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court heard the case on Friday in the presence of lawyers of Shayar’s wife Zainab. During this, Additional Attorney General Munawar Iqbal, who appeared on behalf of the government, told the court that Shayar is in custody till June 2 and he is allowed to meet his family. Iqbal then urged the court to end the case related to illegal imprisonment.

What else did Farhad’s lawyer say in the court?

Farhad’s lawyer argued that the poet’s family had gone to Dhirkot police station in PoK, but he was not there. Later the family was told that the poet has been taken to Muzaffarabad for investigation. After hearing the arguments, Justice Kayani rejected the petition to close the case and said that the case will end the day Farhad is produced in the court. The next hearing of this case will be on June 7.
