Expansion

In the country’s capital Delhi, neither the parents are concerned about their children nor the children are concerned about their lives. Minors i.e. underage children are not refraining from driving vehicles. This has increased the graph of road accidents. In the first five months of this year, the number of minors driving vehicles has increased by 573 percent. After these figures came out, there is panic in the police department. Delhi Traffic Police has intensified efforts to stop the worrying increase in incidents of driving by minors. Continuous campaigns are being run to catch them.

A traffic police official said that there has been a significant increase in the number of challans issued against minor drivers. Data showed that between January 1 and May 15, 2024, the Delhi Traffic Police issued 101 challans for driving offenses by minors. Only 15 challans were issued for driving by minors during the same period in the year 2023. This figure shows a significant increase of about 573 percent. The police have urged parents and guardians to take the matter seriously and prevent minors from driving. People have been appealed to report any case of minors driving to the traffic police or the nearest police station.

Police launched a massive awareness initiative

A senior traffic police official said that the police have launched a comprehensive initiative to increase road safety and reduce accidents caused by young and inexperienced drivers. The police are focusing on educating parents to prevent minors from allowing them to drive. For this, awareness campaigns are being run in schools and communities. These educational efforts complement enforcement actions and try to promote a culture of responsible driving from a young age.
