Humans need protein to keep their body healthy. Especially those who do bodybuilding and try to grow muscles, they need more protein daily than a normal person. In such a situation, people resort to protein powder. But do you know that now insects are being used to make protein powder in some countries.
Who is making protein powder from insects?
Actually, an Israeli company is now making protein powder and protein bars with the help of locusts. Businessman Tamir, who runs this company, while talking to BBC says that the products made from these locusts taste like walnuts, mushrooms, coffee or chocolate. Tamir says that it is not that we are bringing a new tradition of eating locusts. People of Arabia have been eating it for a long time. Apart from this, people of Asia, Africa and Central America have also been eating insects for protein for a long time.
Better for increasing population
Experts claim that this kind of source of protein is better for both humanity and the environment. Actually, the world’s population is increasing rapidly. According to an estimate, the number of humans on earth will reach 9.8 billion by 2050. In such a situation, it will be almost impossible to fulfill the protein needs of every person. If animals are slaughtered for so many people, then this will increase the carbon footprint in the environment and methane emissions will also increase, which is not good for the earth in any way. In such a situation, it will not be wrong to resort to these insects for protein.
Insect farming
It is not that only locusts are being used to make protein. Rather, other types of insects are also being used for this. The biggest thing is that many companies that prepare this type of protein have now started farming these insects. Every month they prepare many times more insects in their labs and then process them to make protein powder, bars and other types of products. Till now such products have not become popular in a country like India, but their demand has started increasing in the West and some Asian countries.
