History of Ice Cream: If there is extreme heat and you get to eat ice cream then what can I say. The joy of eating ice cream in this season is different. Age does not matter in this. Be it a child or an old person, everyone eats ice cream with passion. Its craze is such that whether it is a wedding, party or any function, everything is incomplete without ice cream. There are many flavors of ice cream available in the market. But ice cream has traveled thousands of years and lakhs of kilometers to reach its present form. It is believed that after the first time ice cream was made, it took 4500 years for it to reach India. But while eating it, you must have never thought about its history and who made it for the first time.
According to a legend, ice cream was invented by the Chinese in 3000 BC. It was brought to Italy by the famous traveler Marco Polo. Marco Polo traveled to China between 1254 and 1324. Catherine de Medici brought it to France and from there Thomas Jefferson took it to America. From there, ice cream reached England in the 17th century. Talking about the arrival of ice cream in India, it reached Hindustan with the Mughal emperors. However, it is a bit difficult to tell the exact origin of this favorite cold food of summer. Iced drinks and desserts have existed since at least 4000 BC.

Kulfi came before ice cream
Ice cream was probably called Kulfi in the early days. Kulfi is a Persian word. On this basis it can be said that Kulfi was first made in Iran. Kulfi is frozen by closing it in a large container of wood and metal. It is usually made from milk. The tasty and cool ice cream traveled to the western countries via Greece and Arabia. Many cold refreshments were also popular in the Islamic world. The word sherbet comes from Turkey for a wide range of sweet drinks, which are cooled with ice. Similarly, Falooda, a Persian dish of vermicelli noodles in cold syrup, is centuries old.
Where was ice cream first made?
There are many beliefs about the history of ice cream. Ice cream was first mentioned in 500 BC in the Achaemenid Empire of Iran. It is said that the Persians started making ice cream of many flavors from ice in 400 BC itself. Apart from this, it is also said that around 200 BC, milk and rice were used to make ice cream in China. They used to boil milk and rice together and put it in ice and then eat it. It was somewhat like the cold kheer found in India. Another story is that around 37 to 68 BC, the king of Rome used to eat ice brought from the Neuro mountains by mixing it with fruit juice.

Sikandar was also crazy about ice cream
There is a painting on the tomb of China’s crown prince Zhanghui. In this some women are seen eating ice cream. On this basis it is believed that in 5000 BC there was a trend of eating dishes like Kulfi in China. Not only this, in about 350 BC Alexander was also crazy about ice cream. He loved ice cream made of honey and flowers. Apart from this, the ruler of France Nero also liked to eat ice cream made from the juice of flowers.
How did ice cream reach India?
In India, the Mughal emperors enjoyed a semi-ice cream made from condensed milk. It was actually kulfi, frozen in a mould. But several documents mention that a cold dessert similar to ice cream was made for the emperor Akbar, the recipe of which is also found in the Aina-i-Akbari and Akbar Nama. The insulated ice house was invented in 1851 to make ice cream on a large scale.
Ice cream, which was once limited to royal families and rich people, gradually became popular among common people as well and soon everyone from common people to the elite started enjoying it. The credit for making the ice cream that we are enjoying today goes to Shelly Shedd of America in the 19th century. She started making soft ice cream of many flavors with the help of milk, cream, sugar, dry fruits and wafers. For this, Shelly took the help of a portable freezer and adopted the beating process.
