Several acres of crops have been destroyed due to the breaking of the canal dam in Mairwa, Siwan, Bihar. Regarding the incident, it is being said that the canal dam located in Nawada village of Mairwa block of Siwan district suddenly broke, due to which the crops on about five acres of fields have been destroyed. The entire area was flooded within no time. It is being said that the paddy crop of 50 to 60 farmers has been ruined. The farmers who had sown seeds for paddy, their crops worth lakhs have been destroyed.

‘The dam broke because of rats’

On receiving the information about this incident, department’s Junior Engineer (JE) Madan Mohan reached the spot. He said that space is left for the canal’s outlet, in which rats had made holes everywhere. Due to water filling, leakage increased and this is how the dam broke. JE said that we have started preparations to build a dam so that the flow of water can be stopped.

‘No inspection of the dam was done by the department’

Here, water has started entering many areas gradually. It is worth noting that the rainy season has just begun, but the way the dam has broken, the villagers say that no investigation was done by the department. Nor did anyone come to see it. That is why this dam has broken. At the same time, people say that if the repair is not done soon, then water will start entering the residential areas as well, which will increase the problem further.
