Anil Kapoor had taken this step due to insecurity
Nana said in an interview to ‘The Lallantop’, “Initially Naseeruddin Shah was supposed to play the role of Anna, but later I played this role myself. Because Naseeruddin Shah backed out. Anil and I rehearsed a lot. I prepared for six months. I recently asked Anil, did you ask Vinod to remove me from the film? He said that I thought why should I make Nana a star? Obviously if you played Jackie’s role, you would have become a star. I told Anil that whatever role you give me, I will become a star anyway. No one will look at you.”
The actor further said, “Nowadays everything is fine between Anil and me. But at that time he was a star. He asked Vinod to remove me from the film and he did so. I also walked out. After three-four months Vinod came to me. He asked me if I could play the role of Anna. At first I got angry, then I agreed.”
Parinda earned 9 crores rupees
The film ‘Parinda’, which was released about 35 years ago, earned 9 crore rupees at the box office. While Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit played important roles in it, Suresh Oberoi and Tom Alter played side roles.
